During our visit to FSP’s booth at Computex 2024, we had the opportunity to witness the new PSU line-up that is designed to power the future generation of personal computing. The new PSU is consists of:

  • VITA – Reliable and budget-friendly high-performance PSU (Bronze to Gold)
  • ADVAN – For mainstream gaming rig or workstation, striking a perfect balance between performance and affordability (Bronze to Platinum)
  • MEGA – Design for power-hungry machines, offering wattage range from 1000W to 1650W (up to Titanium)

Today what we have in the studio is the brand new VITA GM 1000W. The GM stands for Gold efficiency and Modular.

At the back, it has most of the fundamental information to help with the purchase decision.

The box contains:

  • FSP VITA GM 1000W
  • power cord
  • power cables
  • screws
  • velcro straps
  • paper documentation

The available power cables:

  • 2x CPU 4+4 pin
  • 1x MOBO 20+4 pin
  • 2x PCIe 6+2 pin
  • 1x PCIe 12V 2×6
  • 1x SATA 4x
  • 2x SATA 2x + MOLEX 2x

The PSU measures a length of 140mm length, a typical ATX power supply design. Unlike some of the higher-performance counterparts that goes up to 190mm in length, the VITA GM 1000W should fit into any ATX case easily.

The connector layout is decent, albeit I prefer the peripheral connectors to be more spread out for easy access.

Honeycomb grille at the back of power supply for hot air exhaust. The Eco mode is currently not available for VITA series. It is a feature found on higher-end FSP power supplies that stops the fan from spinning until the load exceeds 30%.

Disclaimer: Since we not own any professional power supply tester. This review will focus on our user experience based on the system we have. Do take note on your components’ total power consumption before deciding on the PSU choice.

Our test system’s combination of i9-12900K and RTX 3080 Ti requires at least 700W power supply. The FSP VITA GM 1000W will serve this system without any issues.

The total system power consumption usually stays below 250W during lightweight operations such as web browsing and general entertainment. The only missing feature would be the ECO-mode that as the fan would still be spinning even at low loads. Despite so, the fan noise is negligible since the PSU is usually tucked away.

The power draw will go up to ~650W during benchmark stress tests. Obviously, it is still within the power supply’s capabilities.

Verdict

This is the efficiency/load graph provided by FSP for the VITA GM 1000W.

% of Rated Load10%20%50%100%
80 PLUS (otherwise known as 80+ White)—80%80%80% / PFC .90
80 PLUS Bronze—82%85% / PFC .9082%
80 PLUS Silver—85%88% / PFC .9085%
80 PLUS Gold—87%90% / PFC .9087%
80 PLUS Platinum—90%92% / PFC .9589%
80 PLUS Titanium90%92% / PFC .9594%90%

Based on the 80 PLUS rating requirements, the VITA GM 1000W is very close to 80 PLUS Platinum rating which is VERY IMPRESSIVE. Despite so, FSP decides to keep the 80 PLUS Gold for the VITA GM 1000W, presumably out of conservative and avoiding the VITA series cannibalizing the ADVAN series. (my guess) In other words, you’re paying the price of 80 PLUS Gold but you’re getting 80 PLUS Platinum efficiency.

As the VITA GM is certified with PCIe 5.1 and ATX 3.1 standards, the 12VHPWR connector is capable of supplying up to 600W power, making it a worthy investment not just for the current RTX 40 series graphics cards, but also for the future generation GPUs.

ModelMSRP

White – $164 / RM709
VITA-850GMBlack – $139 / RM609
White – $144 / RM629
VITA-750GMBlack – $119
White – $124
VITA-650GMBlack – $99
White – $104

Nonetheless, the VITA GM series is a very enticing for gamers and system builders who are looking for reliable yet highly efficient PSUs. Not to mention the lineup is backed by a 10-year warranty that shows FSP’s confidence and commitment to quality and customer trust.
