This year marks the seventh anniversary of the United Nations’ designation recognizing the vital role MSMEs play in achieving sustainable development goals and contributing to the global economy.
Alibaba.com highlighted its efforts to support MSMEs through the rollout of artificial intelligence (AI) tools for global suppliers. Over 30,000 businesses on the platform have already adopted these tools. Alibaba.com President, Kuo Zhang, emphasized the importance of including developing countries in the AI revolution during a WTO panel discussion.
A recent Alibaba.com survey indicated that 25-30% of MSMEs on their platform utilize AI tools daily. Companies utilizing these tools reported a 37% increase in product exposure, potentially leading to new business opportunities. Additionally, 70% of suggested AI optimizations were implemented by surveyed MSMEs.
Beyond AI tools, Alibaba.com offers MSMEs access to a diverse global supplier network. Key digital supply chain clusters include Northeast Asia (natural ingredients, home furniture, cameras), Southeast Asia (seasonings, furniture, gemstones), and West Asia & Europe (carpets, clothing, construction machinery). These clusters allow for targeted sourcing based on specific product needs.
Alibaba.com is actively expanding its supplier base in developing countries. They aim to onboard 100 African MSMEs and hold 300 of their 500 planned supplier events and seminars in developing nations over the coming fiscal year.
Alibaba.com connects over 48 million buyers with over 200,000 suppliers globally, placing MSMEs at the forefront through innovation and solutions that simplify global sourcing and selling.
