BenQ Group’s Green Expo initiative has concluded with significant strides in 2 major areas proposed by them.

BenQ COMPUTEX Green Expo ISO Renew and ESG Goals Met 1

One of them is a total of 21 ESG goals set for COMPUTEX 2024 which all have been successfully met in addition to receiving a 3rd party professional certification which is the 2nd time since 2023. Specifically, they have introduced innovations in three major areas compared to 2023: environmental (introducing carbon inventory), social (launching the “Green Travel Guide”), and governance (purchasing vegetarian set meals in the “1.5°C-aligned menu”). This year, all 21 goals were met, an increase from the previous year’s 15, with a particular strengthening of social goals to 10 items. Green Expo’s communication and implementation extended beyond working with customers to include campuses, educational funds, and social welfare groups. The practices of Green Expo not only took place during the four-day exhibition period at COMPUTEX Taipei but also influenced activities before and after the event.

Proud to be the only company to renew certification at COMPUTEX successfully, BenQ Group’s Green Expo was crafted under the sustainability philosophy “Together, Make the World Better.” with 2023’s zero-waste exhibition utilized as the baseline for this year’s challenge that sees better sustainability in source design that lead to 15% carbon reduction.

While the booth has used quite a number of wood materials, BenQ Group has donated all of them to campus courses and international educational expos, promoting sustainability through these contributions.

To reach the zero-waste goal in exhibition venue design, BenQ Group adopted the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) approach in 2023 and committed to low-carbon design. At the 2024 2.0 Green Expo, BenQ implemented plans to help Taiwanese exhibition businesses reduce carbon emissions by decreasing wood use, increasing equipment rentals, and other actions. According to carbon emission estimates by the Industrial Technology Research Institute, BenQ’s carbon emissions from booth decoration and power consumption decreased by 15%, contributing to a zero-waste and low-carbon Green Expo.

Additionally, BenQ Group continued the wood’s lifecycle post-exhibition, offering recycling services to four K-12 schools and an international education expo. The repurposed wood will provide new materials for woodworking, school campus maintenance, teaching material production, and educational exhibitions, benefiting students and educators from 15 countries and 1500 participants, thereby passing on the sustainability spirit to future generations.

In general, the 2024 event met the environmental goals of 100% zero-waste decorations, 100% use of recycled dining utensils, and 90% digitalization of printed materials. Socially, a network of over 20 partners was formed to promote sustainable actions, showcasing more than 50% of AI green smart solutions. Governance-wise, economic values were co-created with partners by purchasing 90% local souvenirs and gifts and 80% local building materials from Taiwan.

Joe Huang, General Manager of BenQ Group, stated that COMPUTEX is a leading global technology event. This year, besides showcasing AI capabilities from over 20 companies, BenQ Group is committed to helping customers with green transformations and demonstrating effective sustainability exhibitions. Sustainability is an ongoing process of improvement. By striving for excellence and laying a foundation for sustainable actions, BenQ aims to build a long-term green value chain with partners.

The group also invited 25 sustainability partners to align with current ISO 20121 sustainability initiatives.
