NTT DATA has revealed that 80% of organizations worldwide believe outdated technology hampers their progress and innovation. In the Asia-Pacific region, a staggering 93% of C-suite executives agree that legacy infrastructure significantly limits their business agility. These insights come from NTT DATA’s first Lifecycle Management Report.
The report, which draws on 25 years of data from NTT DATA, examines the challenges and opportunities in managing technology infrastructure lifecycles. Conducted between 2022 and 2023, the research encompasses data from over 248 million active assets across 130 countries, and includes responses from up to 1,400 senior technology decision-makers, with 379 participants from APAC.
Lifecycle management is essential for business success, but rapid technological advancements and the proliferation of new consumption models, alongside a fragmented supplier ecosystem, make it challenging for organizations to maintain infrastructure that supports agility and innovation. The report highlights that more than two-thirds (69%) of active hardware in APAC, scheduled to lose support by 2027, underscores the urgency for better lifecycle management.
The report also reveals that only 59% of enterprises in APAC have fully aligned their technology strategies with business needs, and 71% acknowledge that their network assets are largely outdated or obsolete. Poor lifecycle management can directly impact operations, leading to inadequate coverage, labor-intensive renewals, prolonged incident resolution times, security breaches, and costly compliance issues.
NTT DATA’s Lifecycle Management Report provides actionable insights for IT leaders to mitigate these risks and maximize the value of their technology assets, including:
- Developing a comprehensive view of technology assets to address misaligned lifecycles.
- Standardizing procurement practices and simplifying the multi-vendor environment in an increasingly fragmented ecosystem.
- Optimizing costs while enhancing service provision for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Understanding the sustainability benefits of improved lifecycle management.
Gary Middleton, Vice President of Networking GTM at NTT DATA, Inc., emphasized the importance of lifecycle management in IT processes, noting, “Effective lifecycle management offers significant business benefits, including increased efficiency and fostering innovation. Conversely, poor management poses risks to security and business continuity. Our report aims to help organizations enhance their lifecycle processes and realize substantial advantages.”
The Lifecycle Management Report serves as a vital resource for IT leaders, providing guidance on streamlining infrastructure management to boost productivity, reduce costs, and support innovation.
