BlackBerry Limited today announced a significant expansion of its Cybersecurity division in the Asia Pacific region. The company has established its regional headquarters in Cyberjaya, Kuala Lumpur, leveraging the area’s proximity to key technology hubs and government infrastructure.

This strategic move solidifies BlackBerry’s commitment to the Malaysian government, following a major cybersecurity partnership announced in November 2023. The company collaborated with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to establish the Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, a world-class training facility designed to upskill the nation’s workforce.

Malaysian Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil expressed enthusiasm about the new headquarters, stating, “I welcome BlackBerry’s decision to set up its regional headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. This will not only benefit Malaysia but will also enable the region to access BlackBerry’s cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions.”

Tash Stamatelos, Vice President of BlackBerry Cybersecurity in APAC, emphasized the strategic importance of Malaysia for the company. “Malaysia is a key market for BlackBerry, and we are proud to establish our new APAC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur as part of our regional expansion plans,” Stamatelos said. “As Malaysia assumes the ASEAN Chair in 2024, we commend its efforts in advancing digital transformation and regional cooperation in cybersecurity. The nation’s investment in skills, innovation, and infrastructure is creating a trusted ecosystem that attracts global companies like BlackBerry.”

With this expansion, BlackBerry aims to strengthen its position in the APAC region and provide advanced cybersecurity solutions to businesses and governments across the region.
